CenterState CEO’s Northside Urban Partnership (Northside UP), in partnership with St. Joseph’s Health, M.S. Hall & Associates and the YMCA of Greater Syracuse, Hopeprint Syracuse Northeast Community Center and several other neighborhood organizations, conducted significant community engagement and research over the past several years to develop a vision for a women’s wellness center on Syracuse’s Northside. Dialogue with neighborhood residents about how to improve health and wellness discovered women felt isolated in their homes and unable to access outlets for exercise. Read more about the project and see the stats about Women + Wellness on Syracuse’s Northside at tcisyracuse.org/community-wellness.

The Center will be a welcoming, safe and empowering place for women to improve their health and the health of their families. It will be located on the ground floor of a mixed-use building in the heart of Syracuse’s Northside along a bus route, one block from St. Joseph’s Health main campus. Renderings of the space are available here. The project, which will be operated by the YMCA, received a $500,000 grant from the Central New York Care Collaborative for construction. The women’s-only culturally appropriate wellness space is expected to open in early 2020 and will include fitness equipment, programming and onsite drop-in child watching for mothers using the facility. We’ll have another update in our December newsletter!
